The Acting British Consul-General presents his compli- ments to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and has the honour
to refer to his memorandum of the 16th May regarding the un-
provoked attack on the British river steamer "Lungshan" by
Chinese soldiers stationed on Danes Island (Whampoa).
He begs to repeat the three demands contained in that
memorandum, which are as follows:-
The adequate punishment of the officer in change of
the guilty troops and of any other persons implicated in the
outrage, the names of the culprits and the nature of the
punishment to be communicated to this Consulate-General.
and
b. Compensation for the damage done to the s.s."Lungshan"
C. an apology by the Commander of the Whampoa forts, who
is to call in person and in uniform on a British warship for
the purpose.
The amount of compensation required for the damage done to the ship is two hundred dollars in Hong Kong currency, which must be paid to this Consulate-General for transmission to the shipping company, and as regard the punishment of the
offenders, that of the officer directly responsible for this murderous attack, which might have cost several lives, should include a term of imprisonment.
The above demands together with that for a personal apology by the Commander of the forts, who must call in unform on the British cruiser stationed at Whampoa, must be complied
with
